Discussion University of Vienna
In 2015, the countries of Central and Southeast Europe were at the centre of international attention as the transit countries for more than a million refugees. But even after the closing of the Balkan route, quite a lot of people are still coming to Europe this way. The majority of them want to get to Germany, Sweden etc. But there are still those who try to seek asylum right in the states located on the Balkan route, where they frequently encounter hostile and xenophobic mind-sets.
In the context of the core theme Off the Wall / Across the Line and a special screening, LET’S CEE presents two films dealing with the topic of escape and asylum. In co-operation with the institute for Political Sciences at the University of Vienna, a freely accessible event is organised where the directors of the respective films are going to discuss the situation of asylum seekers in the Balkan region with migration experts. The main questions included are: How are asylum seekers received on-site at the moment? And what can be expected for the future?
