Today marks the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and the International Commemoration Day of the victims of the Holocaust. Holocaust witnesses explaining the horrors of the Nazi extermination machinery to children and adolescents are an invaluable contribution to the fight against increasing right-wing extremism that cannot be highlighted enough. Unfortunately, as time progresses these brave survivors are passing away due to old age.
Zuzana Mináčová is one of the last survivors of Nazi terror who has been tirelessly advocating against forgetting the past. In 2017, the legendary Slovak photographer will join the LET'S CEE Film Festival as a guest, presenting the documentary Through the Eyes of the Photographer. Her son and Emmy Award winner Matej Mináč, who is responsible for the screenplay and directing of the film, created an insightful and moving portrait of his mother.
The documentary displays her dramatic life and persecution by the Nazis and communists. It covers capitalism in her home country, the development of cinematography, Mináčovás passion for photography and her work with celebrities such as John Travolta, Scarlett Johansson and Michael Douglas.
We are looking forward to welcoming Zuzana Mináčová und Matej Mináč in the end of March in Vienna!
