All you really need is love. Love will conquer all, I swear. Love is in the air, trust me! You see it at the train station. You feel it at the border. You notice it in your Facebook stream and with the Twitter bird tweeting it every 30 seconds from your TweetDeck. Declarations of love are around every corner, with everyone in one another’s arms: the Viennese, refugees, HC Strache and Ursula Stenzel, Obama and Rohani! Make love, not war. But there is no sign of the Beatles, hippies, flower power or the mindset of universal love. Quite the contrary. The mood is tense. Looks darken. For you only feel love when you are looking for it. You search for it because you need it in times like these. Love is all you ask for – especially in times like these. We look for love, grasping blindly everywhere we think it might be hiding. Particularly, when we feel love disappearing everywhere around us. As in Ghost Circles by Jeff Smith, love vanishes and everything around us is sucked into a void. However, in approaching this year’s film selections, we did find love. The love that lies in the characters of the stories we watch, with which we resonate. Love emerging from the meticulous work on the screenplays of short films. And lastly, the love you feel, sitting in the cinema, when all of a sudden your problems, your doubts and your fears are portrayed on screen. Because one thing is sure: Love might be all you need, but sometimes you still just simply crave a great film. And a huge abundance of good films is what the LET’S CEE Film Festival offers this autumn. Believe it or not, selection was not easy. Of almost 500 submissions, the 11 best will be shown in competition. A whole range of other outstanding works will also be screened – outside the competition and within different thematic sections – as was done in previous years of the Festival. What all the shorts have in common is the desire for a human, fair and happy existence not at all lacking in that one special thing... (All you need is) love.
