Perseverance is a collection of twenty short stories from all over the world that touch upon elementary human questions. From these stories, the film forms a mosaic of fates with all of their richness of extreme, but also banal situations in the most gruesome of detail. Traumatic experiences, personal secrets, special challenges putting individuals to the test, and constantly surprising philosophical and spiritual solutions. All of this takes centre stage in this formally diverse and excellently composed oeuvre. It is a cinematic expedition, which goes deeper and deeper into the subconsciousness. The film’s characters represent the diversity of human life and thereby the recurring universal question of self-realisation. This concerns a priest in the same way as it concerns a nightclub girl. Overall, the film is a hymn on life and human existence itself. The Slovenian author and director Miha Knific exclusively compiled true events, which he has been collecting from newspaper announcements and stories until the present day, into a “celebration of life in its hardest moments” – a genuine “cacophony of reality”.
