Synopsis

No Place for Tears is an extraordinary historical testimony in the form of an extraordinary documentary by Reyan Tuvi, a brave director who chose to make a film in Maheser, a village on the border between Turkey and Syria. People are fleeing from the Syrian city of Kobanê, which has been – like the surrounding region of Rojava – targeted by Daesh (ISIS, Islamic State). They look for refuge in the bordering country. The film doesn’t necessarily show many images of the violent conflict, but through noise, gunfire, explosions and especially stories told by the women and children, the war can be felt at all times. Some young women keep watch at night and try to joke with those whose cars they are keeping track of. For one boy, the entire situation is more of an adventurous playground, despite all its risks. Looking across the border to Kobanê always means looking at it with sorrow. Brutal battles are raging on until the city is reconquered by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units YPG. Reyan Tuvi doesn’t try to hide her sympathy for the people affected by war. Instead, she tells us about their fears and sorrows, but also about their courage and solidarity – across and beyond borders.
