On a train, somewhere in the mountains of Macedonia, fate brings together two very different women. Marika, a young prostitute, is on the run after killing the accomplice of her pimp. Jana, on the other hand, is a reserved woman in her thirties, returning to her cottage. She also seems to bear a secret. Visibly concerned about Marika’s condition, Jana disembarks from the train after their conversation, and Marika, who doesn’t know where to go, follows her. When they reach the village a fateful confrontation with their past awaits them. While Marika runs away again, Jana decides to face this challenge. Three Days in September is a psychological thriller beyond any genre conventions: What in the beginning seems to be a real-time portrait of the two central characters, gradually builds into an accusation against Macedonian society. Darijan Pejovski outlines the social evils in his native country and provides an intimate look inside the lives of two women, who, ultimately, are simply trying to find their ways around a patriarchal village community. Pejovski’s Orient Express invites audiences on a journey with a one-way ticket.
