Peter, an orthodox priest, lives in a village on a quaint peninsula of Montenegro. Despite his progressively shrinking faith, he still tries to be a good shepherd to his church community. He patiently takes care of his mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, barely recognises him, and loses more and more of her memory. In addition, Peter is a single father, ever since his wife left him many years before. Peter’s relationship with his rebellious son is messed up. On top of all that, he has to deal with a group of village men, who are speculating in real estate and need a property belonging to Peter’s mother. But the priest does not want to sell it to them, at any price. The would-be speculators try to persuade the stubborn man of God with all kinds of tricks, mostly tied to the superstitions of the village inhabitants. Ivan Marinovic’s sophisticated debut feature is a priceless, bittersweet comedy with naturalistic elements. The humour and acting are as impressive as the camera work, which deftly captures the marvellous landscape of Marinovic’s home country.
