Lecturers: Slovenian Ivan Novak, whose alias is Ivo Saliger, is a founding member of the cult band Laibach (1980), the NSK movement (1984) and the NSK State (1992). The multimedia artist describes himself as a “machinist of the human soul” and works in various domains to the present day, although Laibach is and has always been his main focus. Mina Špiler, singer at the legendary creative collective’s concert in North Korea, is going to be available to answer the audience’s questions after the Master Class, as well as after the film screening.
Content: Ivan Novak presents various aspects of the ever-present relationship and the mutual dependency of art, propaganda and ideology using the example of last year’s Laibach concert in North Korea. Among many others, songs from the film The Sound of Music, which plenty of people in this isolated dictatorship were familiar with, were played at this gig. The internationally much-noticed and fiercely disputed trip to Pyongyang of probably the world’s most provocative band is also the subject of the documentary Liberation Day, which will be played in conjunction with this Master Class.
Screening: March 21, 9pm, Urania Kino. Liberation Day (LAT/SLO/NOR 2016, 100 min., English)
Admission: The regular admission to the LET’S CEE Master Classes is 35 Euro; students and holders of respective cards (Cineplexx Bonus Card, EYCA, oetCard, ÖAMTC and Wien Energie Fernwärme Servicecard) and of festival passes as well as accredited press and industry representatives pay only 25 Euro (pre-sale: 30/20 Euro).
