Zoli and Barba met in a rehabilitation clinic. Both tied to a wheelchair since their births, the two men are united by a deep bond of friendship. One day, Rupaszov, a former firefighter who is paralysed from the waist down, is admitted to the clinic and disturbs the quiet life of the two who enthusiastically draw comics. However, Zoli and Barba turn out to be quick-witted accomplices when Rupaszov, working as a hitman after a stay in prison, receives fresh and usually lethal mission orders. Not entirely amused by the two henchmen on wheels, Rupaszov’s client soon turns out to be a force to be reckoned with, a force that the team would rather avoid. Kills on Wheels is an astonishing, fast-paced balancing act between dire reality and dark comedy, held together by the magnificent acting of the protagonists. The director, Attila Till, successfully put forth a story about growing up, packed with humour and wit, and spotlighting individuals instead of their disabilities. The essence of the film is clearly: Don’t underestimate people with a disability! The Hungarian film received abundant praise, numerous awards and an Oscar nomination in 2016. It simply never ceases to amaze.
