Yusuf, a thirteen-year-old Syrian boy, works at a quarry in a Turkish bordertown. As he is bilingual, he is considered an Arab by some people, while others refer to him as a Turk. His everyday work is monotonous; there is only little time for being a child. But then, all of a sudden, adolescent feelings of love awaken in him: a few glances are enough for him to know that he is in love with Amina, a Syrian girl. Indeed, a meeting is arranged. Yusuf prepares for his date. However, when he arrives at his date, he is just supposed to translate between Amina and an admirer of hers. Without showing the extent of his pain, he obliges Amina's request. Yet, soon he uses his language skills as an instrument of power, manipulating the two lovers who want to get to know each other. Loneliness is inevitable.
