18 year old Marek spends his days training at the boxing club, helping his father with work at the vineyard or hanging out with some right-wing extremist skinheads. More often, however, the withdrawn teenager is with his pit bull Killer, who seems to be his only friend. When his father is caught up in financial difficulties, he wants to sell parts of his property. Unfortunately he needs the signature of his ex-wife Marika for that, who has abandoned the family years ago. Marek knows near to nothing about the reasons for her leaving. Now it’s he of all people who is supposed to get that signature. Meeting his mother reveals a long kept family secret to the teenager, which especially his skinhead friends do not like.Mira Fornay’s social drama narrates disturbingly and shockingly how a sense of shame and false pride can lead to a catastrophe. The actors are all laymen from the Slovak-Czech border area, amongst them said skinheads; the film was shot solely at authentic locations, which makes it appear incredibly authentic. My Dog Killer is a somber drama, told without clichés, which does not judge intolerant people but ask how and why racism altogether comes to be.
