In 2013 the Gezi Park, a green area at the very heart of Istanbul was to be demolished and given place to the construction of a shopping mall. However, that wasn’t going to be accepted by the public. The plan attracted crowds of protesters who were going to stay in the park until it would be saved. The director Reyan Tuvi was there from the start with her camera in order to film the events that otherwise would have been ignored or manipulated by the media under governmental control. Certainly she hadn’t expected the outcome that became the largest protest movement in Turkey to date. Whether single mothers, football fans, the homeless, homosexuals, Kurds, Muslims, the liberal or the nationalist, the Gezi Park and neighbouring Taksim Square attracted people with drastically different views and lives, nevertheless, they stood united by one common goal. Groups were built, friends were made in the course of the event, and people simply grew closer. The film records the unique team spirit and solidarity of the participating men and women. That is why Love Will Change The Earth is much more than a mere visual document of the civil opposition and police violence. It is a picture that widens horizons of our perception; one that singles out and reveals distinct faces behind revolting masses.
