Trouble in paradise. Grebo and his pregnant wife Liliane take a break from their stressful day-to-day life and go on vacation in an all-inclusive beach resort at the Croatian coast. Balsam for the soul and for their love – or at least one ought to think so. One evening the young couple gets to know the mysterious diving instructor Flora. Both Grebo and the passionate Frenchwoman Liliane soon acquire a liking for the seductive beauty. Which puts their relationship to a grave test. Is this situation going to work out? So far the exceptional Bosnian director Jasmila Žbanić dedicated herself to the brutal reality of the conflict in Bosnia. For Grbavica in 2006 she even received a Golden Bear. With Love Island she finds herself on completely new grounds. She entertainingly manages to pack the obstacles and points of friction of a modern relationship together with typical holiday experiences and a great deal of charm and originality. In doing so, she unites humour, sex and the feeling of holiday in the self-contained world of a tourist resort – a feeling that every spectator will probably know. And when the hormones go crazy and everybody climbs into bed with each other, there is even time in the rapid pace to play with gender roles. A delightfully amusing and breezy-light summer comedy.
