After several weeks of binging - including parties, sex and drugs - teenage Deniz wakes up in hospital. With her provocative, self-destructive behaviour the young Turkish woman rebels against her obsessively controlling father as well as against her home country's society, that, while appearing modern on the outside, still has a patriarchal structure. During her recovery, Deniz begins to open drawers to memories that are illustrated in beautiful fantastic images. Some of these memories, however, would better have remained forgotten. Directors M. Caner Alper and Mehmet Binay have already participated in LET'S CEE in 2012 with Zenne Dancer. With their debut feature on the rights of Turkish homosexuals, the duo won the feature film competition. Drawers is a spectacle no less controversial. Again inspired by a true story, the film centres on female sexuality, which, of course, is taboo in the Muslim country. Tragic and at the same time universal fates such as the protagonist's are meant to call for social awareness as well as to encourage all women to self-determination, to discover themselves and their own sexuality, to love and to live.
