Synopsis

Ryszard Kukliński was colonel of the Polish People’s Army during the Cold War and one of the most important CIA agents in the entire Eastern Bloc. Between 1972 and 1981, he handed over 40.000 pages worth of documents about weapons systems and war strategies of the Warsaw Pact to the USA. According to his own statement, Jack Strong, which was his pseudonym, tried to prevent the Soviets from turning his home into a nuclear battle field in the case of war. Until today it is highly controversial among his fellow countrymen whether he should be considered a hero or a traitor. The homonymous spy thriller, a blockbuster in Poland, tells his nerve-wracking story. As an officer with access to top secret military plans of the Warsaw Pact, Jack Strong was under surveillance of Soviet counterintelligence during all these years, which meant permanent life threatening danger for him and his family. The script about this authentic and excellently staged drama of contemporary history was partly developed in collaboration with the CIA and is based on an extensive international historical research. Even high-ranking personalities such as Zbigniew Brzeziński, Jimmy Carter’s national safety advisor, and Jerzy Koźmiński, the former Polish ambassador to the USA, were involved.
