Synopsis

Panel Discussion „About the right way of dealing with sustainable remembrance and commemoration“

2014 marks the 100th anniversary of World War I and the 75th anniversary of World War II. For this occasion, Branko Lustig has curated an anti-war film retrospective for the LET’S CEE Film Festival. The selected films are meant to both remind us of the crimes of the past as well as send a clear signal against violence, fascism, racism and discrimination. The two-time Academy Award winner and surviver of the Holocaust will also discuss the challenges of preserving a continuous culture of remembrance in a conversation with Oliver Rathkolb, hosted by the editor-in-chief of Der Standard, Alexandra Föderl-Schmid. This opportunity will also be used to introduce the Shoah Foundation, founded in 1994 by Steven Spielberg in cooperation with Branko Lustig, Karen Kushell and Gerald R. Molen - the biggest collection of multimedia sources of Holocaust survivors in the world - and to show the short film Games, filmed and produced at the Festival of Tolerance in Zagreb.

In cooperation with DER STANDARD, the Department of Contemporary History of the University of Vienna and the Festival of Tolerance.
