Under the artistic direction of Jean-Michel Frodon, this ambitious and touching omnibus film includes thirteen stories exploring the role of Sarajevo over the past 100 years. Thirteen directors representing different generations coming from Eastern and Western Europe were involved in the project, which had its world premiere at the 2014 International Film Festival in Cannes. Among these filmmakers, who draw a highly differentiated picture of the city in Bridges of Sarajevo, are also some famous names such as Jean-Luc Godard or Isild Le Besco. The episodes are unique and as different as their narrators: while Ursula Meier and Vincenzo Marra show Sarajevo from the perspective of first timers, Aida Begić allows the audience insights into a city where she has spent all her life. Some episodes portray human destinies, while others focus on historical aspects and illustrate events such as the outbreak of World War I or the siege of the city in the first half of the 1990s. The episodes are linked by animated drawings which, isolated from the episodes, develop an artistic life of their own as well.
